Environmental Fair
The Murray SWCD assists with the Area V Environmental Fair. The schools in Southwest Minnesota are provided an opportunity to send their 6th grade students to a day long educational opportunity.
The Environmental Fair is arrangement of several different sessions devoted to ecology, soils, wildlife, and vegetation associated with Southwestern Minnesota.
Envirothon
The Envirothon is a competition for high school students to
challenge their environmental knowledge and problem solving skills.
The event is an outdoor, hands-on learning experience for students
in grades 9-12.
It is sponsored by the Southwest Minnesota Association of Conservation District Employees. Each four or five member teams attend learning stations covering forestry, aquatics, soils and wildlife, and the year's current issue.
Natural resources professionals at each station use hands-on examples to test the student's knowledge of each topic. The top three teams in the competition will advance to the State Envirothon.
Rainfall Monitor
The
Murray SWCD works with rainfall monitors across Murray County and
reports rainfall/snowfall results monthly to the State Climatology
Office.
